Metro Manila HEIs announce suspension, transition to virtual classes on July 24

The Mapua University, De La Salle University (DLSU), Colegio de Sta. Rosa (CSR), and iAcademy officially announced on their social media accounts the class suspension and their transition to virtual classes.

This measure is taken to prioritize the safety and welfare of students, faculty, and staff during adverse weather conditions. By shifting to virtual learning, HEIs aim to ensure uninterrupted education while minimizing potential risks due to inclement weather.

However, HEIs such as Colegio de San Juan de Letrán (CSJL), Adamson University (AdU), Arellano University (AU), Far Eastern University (FEU), University of Santo Tomas (UST), St. Paul University Manila (SPUM), Lyceum of Alabang, and University of the East (UE) announced on their social media accounts the suspension of their classes.

As written in the Memorandum Circular No. 25 issued by the Office of the President, "the suspension of work for private companies and classes in private schools is left to the discretion of their respective heads."

Thus, decisions on whether a suspension or virtual classes are up to the head of private education institutions.

Furthermore, while most HEIs have confirmed that regular operations will resume on July 25, DLSU noted that its regular operations will return on June 26.

The circular announced  the "suspension of classes in public schools at all levels and work in government offices to ensure the public's safety from the effects of Typhoon Egay and to alleviate the effects of the scheduled transport strike." (Rhowen Del Rosario)
