With collaboration and support from all sectors, we can propel the country forward in the digital era," Uy said. The DICT emphasized the directives of the president from its previous SONA in 2022, which were "to deploy digital connectivity across the archipelago, specifically in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDAs), transform the government into an agile bureaucracy, promote investments in ICT, and enable digital inclusion." Due to these orders, the country's ICT department "has implemented various programs and initiatives to fulfill the directives of the President and chart the country's path to become a prosperous and inclusive digital nation," DICT wrote.Â
Last June, DICT's "Broadband ng Masa" (BBM) program "intensified" and reached Sacol Island in Zamboanga City. "The Department intensified the deployment of broadband connectivity in GIDAs through the Department's flagship "Broadband ng Masa" Program. The Sacol Island in Zamboanga City, being one of these GIDAs that became a beneficiary of the BBM Program, is currently enjoying ICT capacity training webinars upon the activation of its internet tower last June 2023," DICT said. "This has paved the way for the community to be chosen as a Smart Village by the International Telecommunication Union, for citizens to access state-of-the[-]art technology, trainings, and services, redounding to an improvement in the overall quality of life in the island," it added. The project aims to provide a reliable internet connection to benefit Filipinos, especially those living in GIDAs. Read: [https://mb.com.ph/2023/4/19/dict-s-broadband-ng-masa-program-reaches-davao-city](https://mb.com.ph/2023/4/19/dict-s-broadband-ng-masa-program-reaches-davao-city)
