Caloocan LGU ready for 3-day transport strike -- Mayor Along
Caloocan City Mayor Dale Gonzalo “Along” Malapitan said on Sunday, July 23, that the city government is ready to assist residents and passengers who will be affected by the transport strike of Public utility vehicles (PUV) starting Monday, July 24, to Wednesday, July 26.
The three-day transport strike will be conducted by some PUV groups in Metro Manila led by Manibela, starting on the day when President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. will deliver his second State of the Nation Address (SONA), as a protest against the PUV Modernization program.
The said program requires the phase out of traditional jeepneys which will be replaced by modern and environment-friendly vehicles.
Malapitan said that 60 vehicles are now on stand-by in anticipation of the possible impacts of the transport strike in Caloocan.
He added that the City Public Safety and Transport Management Department (PSTMD) will also be placing contact persons in key areas of the city to immediately provide assistance while high alert status is in place for the 24/7 Caloocan Emergency Hotline (02) 888-25664 for urgent concerns.
Rescue units will also be deployed in identified areas in the city including Manila Central University, Alamar, Monumento, old Caloocan City Hall, Bagong Silang Phases 7 and 9, Amparo Gate, and Quirino Hi-way Malaria to respond to emergencies.
The contact numbers of the rescue units were posted in the city’s official Facebook page.
"Tinatawagan ko rin po ang lahat na paghandaan ang epekto ng tigil-pasada bago pa umalis ng bahay para maka-iwas tayo sa anumang aberya (I also call on everyone to prepare for the effect of the transport strike before leaving their homes so that we can avoid any trouble)," Malapitan said.
PSTMD Officer-in-Charge Engineer Gilberto Bernardo asked for the city residents' cooperation to ensure peace and order during the transport strike.
