ARTA director-general Secretary Ernesto Perez said this after President Marcos issued Executive Order (EO) No. 32, which streamlined the permitting processes for constructing telecommunications and Internet infrastructure in the Philippines. In a statement, Perez said that the EO is a "significant step forward" in the government's efforts to increase interconnectivity and make the Philippines more connected. "In support of the directives of President Marcos to fast-track all government transactions and improve bureaucratic efficiency, the Authority nudges further to increase the collaboration streams of government agencies and the private sector stakeholders on resolving the existential connectivity issues in the far-flung areas of the country," he said. The EO institutionalizes the streamlined guidelines for the construction, installation, repair, operation, and maintenance of Shared Passive Telecommunications Tower Infrastructure (SPTTI), and erection of poles, installation of aerial and underground cables and facilities, underground fiber ducts, ground terminals, and other transmission telecommunications and Internet infrastructure and facilities. "This will help to accelerate the construction of telecommunications infrastructure in the Philippines, which will, in turn, improve interconnectivity and boost economic growth," he added. Meanwhile, the Private Sector Advisory Council (PSAC) also lauded the issuance of EO 32, saying it would spur the country's development. "We thank President Marcos for signing this vital executive order that holds the potential to spur our country's economic growth via digitalization," said Sabin Aboitiz, PSAC Lead Convener and Aboitiz Group President and CEO. The PSAC is a group of private sector representatives who advise the government on improving the business environment. The group has been a vocal advocate for streamlining the telecommunications infrastructure permitting process. According to Perez, the ARTA and the PSAC are committed to working with the government to implement EO 32 effectively and make the Philippines a more connected nation. "Together, with a whole-of-nation approach, we can make the Philippines a more business-friendly and prosperous country," he said.
