Members of the Manila Police District (MPD) blocked 150 protesters from marching toward the US Embassy in Ermita, Manila where they planned to stage a rally on Saturday, July 22. MPD chief Brigadier Gen. Andre Dizon reminded the rallyists of the "No permit, No rally" policy in the city when they were blocked upon reaching the United Nations Avenue. The rallyists led by Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (BAYAN) were calling for a living wage, civil and political rights protection, and national sovereignty. They first staged a protest rally along Quezon Boulevard in Quiapo, Manila. The MPD-Barbosa Police Station (PS-14) said the groups also urged the public to stand against the dislocation of poor communities from ancestral lands and and farms. Among the groups who joined the rally were the Pagkakaisa ng mga Samahan mga Tsuper at Opereytor Nationwide (PISTON), Anakbayan, BAYAN, Katipunan ng mga Lehitimong Magsasaka at Mamamayan sa Lupang Ramos (KASAMA-LR), Katipunan ng mga Samahang Magbubukid sa Timog Katagalugan (KASAMA-TK), and Gabriela.
