Marikina LGU to implement traffic scheme for ‘Palaro’ grand parade on July 31

The Marikina City government released a traffic rerouting scheme that will be implemented for the grand parade and opening ceremony of the “Palarong Pambansa” or National Games on Monday, July 31.

“The city has prepared a traffic management plan to ensure that traffic will flow orderly and avoid inconvenience to motorists,” said Mayor Marcelino “Marcy” Teodoro.

The local government advised motorists to avoid the vicinity of the Marikina Sports Center (MSC) and the parade routes on July 31 due to expected heavy traffic.

The grand parade, starting at the Marikina River Park, will pass through Zapatero St., J.P. Rizal St., V. Gomez St., Shoe Avenue, and a portion of Sumulong Highway.

As such, the following roads will be closed: Kabayani St. Extension, J.P. Rizal St. (corners Bayan Access Road, Sumulong Highway, and Ming Ramos, S. Dela Paz, P. Dancel, Kapitan Moy, Deguangco, and E. Dela Paz streets); Jacamar St. (corners F. Paz and Flamingo streets); Shoe Avenue (corners I Mendoza and Chanyungco streets); Chanyungco St. (corner Sparrow and Eagle St.); McDonalds Avenue corner Sumulong Highway; and Sumulong Highway corner McDonalds Avenue.

The rerouting scheme on July 31 is as follows:

  • Motorists going to Marikina City - take Marcos Highway, then proceed to Gil Fernando Avenue
  • Motorists going to Antipolo City - take Marcos Highway
  • Motorists going to San Mateo, Montalban, Rizal - take Commonwealth Avenue and Batasan Road in Quezon City

The rerouting scheme will be in effect from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

“We are urging our residents to utilize the alternate routes announced by the city government, and to plan their trips ahead of time,” said Teodoro.

Around 160 traffic management personnel, under the Office of Public Safety and Security (OPSS), will be deployed to assist and manage the flow of traffic.

The Palaro 2023 will be held in Marikina City from July 29 to Aug. 5.
