DSWD chief alerts regional directors for tropical storm Egay
Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian directed all regional directors on Saturday, July 22, to be on high alert for the possible effects of tropical storm Egay.
This is after the state weather bureau warned that Egay could intensify into a super typhoon by Tuesday or Wednesday.
Gatchalian ordered DSWD regional offices to be in close coordination with local government units regarding providing relief goods for their constituents.
As of the latest DSWD Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center report, the agency has already prepositioned worth P1.14 million of family food packs and more than P1.12 billion worth of non-food and other food items across the country.
Meanwhile, the Disaster Response and Management Group reported that 1.73 million worth of standby funds are available in DSWD's Central and field offices.
The National Resource and Logistics Management Bureau has also ensured the availability of food and non-food items for augmentation in the various regional offices.
"As instructed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., there are adequate food and non-food items (FNIs) prepositioned in the DSWD FOs nationwide, ready for distribution as augmentation support to the LGUs if the need arises. This will ensure immediate delivery of services to the affected population," said DSWD spokesperson Assistant Secretary Romel Lopez.
