The prominent businessman lauded the public and private sectors for coming together during the pandemic and helping the economy bounce back.
“The pandemic brought public and private sector together. It showed that government and industry coming together can make a strong team against any adversity,” he said in a statement.
“The pandemic destroyed lives and livelihoods, but on the bright side brought us all together to survive and win this war.,” Concepcion added.
His remarks came after Marcos signed Proclamation 29, lifting the State of Public Health Emergency in the whole country, effectively revoking previous orders, memoranda, among others, due to the coronavirus pandemic.
As a former Presidential Adviser on Entrepreneurship under the previous Duterte administration, he led the private sector’s Project Ark initiative to make mass testing accessible, as well as A Dose of Hope to make vaccines easily available to the public.
Concepcion also organized townhall meetings and supported the participation of doctors and scientists in forming policy regarding the pandemic.
While he credited former Cabinet members, doctors, and scientists, he also underscored the role of the private sector in the country’s response to the pandemic.
Concepcion noted how the private sector partnered with the government in bringing in AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccines “at a special price and donate half to the government.”
“That is one great effort that showed teamwork was key,” he said.
“It also pushed many Filipinos to digitalize starting with e-wallets for contactless transactions. Today, digitalization is bringing about greater inclusivity with almost all Filipinos using e-wallets.This is one reason why economic recovery bounced back strongly,” he added.
