Bishop Santos installed as the new shepherd of the Diocese of Antipolo


Bishop Ruperto C. Santos was officially installed as the new shepherd of the Diocese of Antipolo during rites held at the International Shrine of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage (Antipolo Cathedral) on July 22

Papal Nuncio Archbishop Charles John Brown led the installation rites at 10 a.m. of the fifth bishop of the diocese. Bishop Santos succeeds retired Bishop Francisco de Leon who attended the ceremony.

Bishop Santos, 65, vowed to be “a servant’ to the church and to the office entrusted to him.” 

“I come to you here not as someone powerful. Here I am, like you, one with you, a partner with you in the work of the Lord. come as your companion, a mere servant to all of you,” the newly installed bishop said in his homily.

The ceremony began at 9:30 a.m. with a civic reception for the new bishop by city and provincial officials at the church yard.

Cathedral rector Fr. Nante Tolentino was on hand to welcome their new bishop. Several Church leaders attended the ceremony including Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula, members of the clergy and the religious.

The Diocese of Balanga in Bataan where Bishop Santos served for 13 years is now vacant and will be temporarily manned by San Fernando Archbishop Florentino Lavarias as apostolic administrator.
