Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Commissioner Romeo D. Lumagui, Jr. Â has deployed additional examiners to the large taxpayers service (LTS) to further strengthen efforts in collecting deficiency taxes from major business enterprises.
The LTS is responsible for investigating conglomerates and interconnected companies.
To enhance the proficiency of the LTS, the BIR chief has assigned experienced tax accountants to the service to boost the bureau's capacity in recovering outstanding liabilities from these big companies.
Revenue Assistant Commissioner Jethro M. Sabariaga leads the LTS which plays a crucial role in generating approximately 65 to 70 percent of the bureau's annual total collection.
The majority of the reassigned field personnel to the LTS came from the Metro Manila district offices.
The Travel Assignment Order No. 125-2023 affected 50 fieldmen, including the reassignments of several group supervisors and examiners within the various divisions and units of the LTS.
This year, the bureau is targeting to raise nearly P2.6 trillion. So far, records showed total collection of P1.056 from January to May which surpassed the set target by over P1.3 billion.
