Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Service Administration's (PAGASA) weather forecaster Veronica Torres said that at as of 8 a.m., "Egay" intensified into a tropical storm and for the next 24 hours, it is possible to elevate to a severe tropical storm category. In its latest bulletin, issued at 11 a.m., PAGASA traced "Egay" 750 kilometers (km) east of Virac, Catanduanes. It stated that "Egay" moves westward "slowly" with maximum sustained wind of 65 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and up to 80 kph gustiness.
Since the northern part of northern Luzon is inside the "area of probability," PAGASA said its landfall is possible. "Northern part ng northern Luzon ay nasa loob ng area of probability. So, hindi natin ni ru-rule out yung possible landfall sa northern part ng northern Luzon (the northern part of northern Luzon is inside the area of probability. So, we are not ruling out the possible landfall in the northern part of northern Luzon), " Torres stated.
PAGASA pointed out that "Egay" may bring moderate to rough seas on Sunday over the eastern seaboards of Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Thus, the state weather bureau said mariners of small seacrafts are advised to take precautionary measures when venturing out to sea. "If inexperienced operating ill-equipped vessels, avoid navigating in these conditions," it added. *(Sonny Daanoy)*
