Police Col. Jonathan Tangonan took over as the new chief of the Malabon City Police Station (MCPS) during a turnover ceremony held on Thursday, July 20.
The ceremony was attended by Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval, the new acting Northern Police District (NPD) director Brig. Gen. Rizalito Gapas, and other police officials.
Tangonan replaced Col. Amante Daro who led the Malabon City police force since November 3, 2022.

Tangonan served as the Senior Superintendent Commander of Cotabato Provincial Police Office in 2017. He also served as the Deputy Director for Administration of the Northern Police District - Regional Office (NCRPO)  and was the Deputy Director for Operation of the Philippine National Police Maritime Group (PNP-MG). Brig. Gen. Rizalito Gapas was also designated acting District Director of the NPD on Wednesday, July 19. He replaced Gen. Ponce Rogelio Peñones. Gapas served as the PNP-SAF deputy director. He was also part of the PNP Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG) and later the PNP Intelligence Group (IG). He was Pasig City Police Station chief before being named director of the Negros Oriental PPO in 2019. "It has been an incredible 11 months, and I am honored to have the privilege of serving the Camanava as the District Director of the Northern Police District," Peñones said. "I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Outgoing Director Brigadier General Ponce Rogelio Peñones for his unwavering dedication, remarkable leadership, and countless contributions to the Northern Police District," Mayor Sandoval said.
