CAMP FLORENDO, La Union – The Police Regional Office-1 has organized a task force to beef up security preparations of the Ilocos region for the second State-of-the-Nations Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Monday, July 24.
Police Brig. Gen. John C. Chua, PRO-1 director, said that they have created Task Group SONA 2023 headed by Police Col. Antonio P. Marallag Jr., deputy regional director for operations, to ensure the orderly and peaceful conduct of the annual presidential address.
“Our preparation is concurrent to the PRO-1’s mission and functions on intensifying public safety and security operations and sustaining law enforcement as well as other administrative and operational activities in the region,” Chua said.
He said that checkpoints would be established all throughout the entire Ilocos region in coordination with the Land Transportation Office-Regional Office 1 and a total of 200 Civil Disturbance Management contingents are on standby for possible deployment to the National Capital Region.
“The PRO-1 is committed to keeping the peace and order of the Ilocos region and will observe all the guidelines in implementing law and ensuring the safe and peaceful second SONA 2023 on Monday,” Chua said.
