Commemorative masses in her honor will be offered at the St. Mary Magdalene Diocesan Shrine and Parish in Pilillia, Rizal which has been classified as a national historical treasure by the National Historical Institute. This year’s feast of St. Mary Magdalene coincides with the 440th parish fiesta. The diocesan shrine keeps two sacred relics of St. Mary Magdalene, a bone (first class relic) and a piece of cloth (second class relic). Special masses will also be held at the Diocesan Shrine and Parish of St. Mary Magdalene in Kawit, Cavite to coincide with the 400th year of devotion to Santa Maria Magdalena. The parish has just been elevated into a diocesan shrine on July 20. Imus Bishop Reynaldo Evangelista presided over the holy mass. Other fiesta activities include a replica procession on July 16, a karakol procession on July 21 at 8 a.m., a fiesta procession on July 22 at 7 p.m. and a concluding procession on July 31 at 7 p.m. At the St. Mary Magdalene Parish in Amadeo, Cavite, holy masses will be offered at 4:30 a.m., 6 a.m., 8 a.m., and at 10 a.m. The concelebrated fiesta mass will be held at 5 p.m. followed by a solemn procession. A devoted follower of Jesus, St. Mary Magdalene, who was also known as Mary of Magdala, was mentioned in the Sacred Scriptures as the woman, who “filled with repentance, washed Jesus’ feet with her tears, dried them with her hair, and anointed them with expensive oil.” Church officials said, the Jewish woman was a legendary example of God’s mercy and grace. When Jesus was crucified, she stood with the Blessed Mother and St. John at the foot of the cross and remained until Jesus’ body was taken down and laid in a tomb. She was also the first recorded witness of the Resurrection of Christ.
