CEBU CITY – Motorcycles will have to use the right most lane when traversing the South Coast Road (SCR) here starting next week.
The move is part of the measures to reduce vehicular accidents in the area, said Councilor Joel Garganera.
GARGANERA
Garganera had filed a resolution asking the Cebu City Traffic Office (CCTO) to assign a designated lane for motorcycles at SCR.
“I’m very thankful that the CCTO saw the importance because until now, there are still a lot of accidents in the area and there are many deaths,” said Garganera.
One of the fatal accidents that was cited was that involving former PBA player Rodulfo Enterina Jr. last April.
Enterina died after a truck ran over him after the motorcycle he was driving crashed.
“Just to make it safe, it would be better if motorcycles stay on the right, on the safe side, on the slow side because at the farthest left or in the middle, vehicles are running at a high speed,” Garganera said.
The new traffic rule will start on July 24.
Raquel Arce, head of CCTO, said an information drive is already being conducted to inform motorists of the new traffic rule at SCR.
Violation of the new traffic rule carries a P1,000 fine.
“For now, we are doing a wide information dissemination campaign. We will give enough time to our motorists to know the new rule. But next week, we will start the strict enforcement of the traffic rule,” Arce said.
