BI nabs Japanese 'fugitive' wanted for robbery

Bureau of Immigration (BI) agents have successfully apprehended a Japanese man who is allegedly wanted in his home country for robbery.

Acting on a mission order issued by BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco, immigration agents arrested Takeuchi Kazuo, 54, along Roxas Boulevard in Manila on Thursday, July 20.

The Japanese government had labeled Takeuchi as a fugitive from justice, and a warrant for his arrest had been issued by the Sage Summary Court of Japan, specifically for his involvement in violent robbery.

Last April, the Japanese authorities informed the BI about Takeuchi's case, revealing that he had fled to the Philippines in an attempt to escape prosecution.

Upon receiving the information, the BI's fugitive search unit promptly initiated a manhunt operation to locate and apprehend Takeuchi.

Commissioner Tansingco emphasized the BI's commitment to collaborating with foreign governments when it comes to tracking down fugitives hiding in the Philippines.

"We are in close coordination with foreign governments who provide us information about fugitives that are hiding here," stated Tansingco.

Takeuchi is now facing a summary deportation order and will remain in the BI's detention facility in Bicutan, Taguig, until arrangements for his deportation are finalized.
