Some 32 Grade 3 students in Valenzuela City will participate in the first ever Valenzuela Techno Camp launched by the local government to help learners gain more knowledge about information technology (IT) at an early age.
Through the Techno Camp, the local government said it eyes to empower and prepare the students in the future by enhancing their skills in IT through robotics and coding classes. This is in line with its goal to build a globally competitive city that has continuous progress and innovation.
The event was launched in partnership with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and Nullspace Robotics PH at the Valenzuela City School of Mathematics and Science in the city on on Wednesday, July 19.
Of the participants, 16 students were from Malinta Elementary school while the 16 others were from Santiago De Guzman Elementary School.

Several personnel from both schools were trained by Nullspace Robotics PH to serve as teacher-trainers of the participants, the local government said. It said the camp will run for two weeks. The kids will have a daily session of two hours on robotics and coding classes. It added that the Nullspace Robotics PH has three curricula for the Valenzuela Techno Camp which include Scratch, a high-level block based visual programming language and website, where the learners can create and design their own games through coding; Minecraft Education, an online game-based platform that inspires creative and inclusive learning through playing that involves computational thinking skills from the students; and Lego Spike Prime (Robotics), wherein graphical-based programming and basic motor movement control will be taught to students for them to explore building autonomous robots with various sensors and programming automation. “Dito sa Valenzuela City, binibigay ng libre itong programa. Sa buong Pilipinas, tayo po ang kauna-unahang napiling lungsod na nagbigay ng free training sa ating mga guro at trainors, para po sila ang tututok sa future techno kids natin (Here in Valenzuela City, the program is free. We are the first city here in the Philippines to conduct free training on our teachers, so that they will be the ones who will upskill our future techno kids),” Valenzuela City Mayor Weslie “Wes”Gatchalian said. Also present during the event were Vice Mayor Lorie Natividad-Borja, Nullspace Robotics PH delegates, City Councilors Gerald Galang, Marlon Alejandrino, Niña Lopez, Liga ng mga Barangay Federation President Jonjon Bartolome, Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation President Goyong Serrano, Techno Camp project coordinator Councilor Cris Feliciano, DICT Director IV Maria Teresa Garcia, Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Alejandro Ibañez, and Nullspace Robotics PH Chief Executive Officer Bennieson Co, teachers, parents, and students. Nullspace Robotics, founded in 2008, is a provider of technology education that offers various enrichment programs for children, introducing them to various engineering and programing concepts though hand-on learning (according to ph.nullspace.co). It allows the kids to engage in activities like building and programing robots, creating games, and working in electronic projects.
