2 teenage boys killed in rifle grenade blast in Leyte

TACLOBAN CITY – A 16-year-old boy and his friend were killed while their companion was injured when the rifle grenade they were playing accidentally exploded in Sitio Tawid, Barangay Tinago, Inopacan, Leyte.

Inopacan police chief Police Capt. Daisy Hallasco identified the fatalities as Robert Degorio, 16, and Alfred Alva, 18, and the survivor as Gleen Miguel Accion, 19.

Hallasco said that an explosion was heard by neighbors from Degorio's house, prompting barangay officials to call the police.

Police saw the victims bleeding, with Degorio and Alva sustaining severe injuries.

They were taken to the Baybay City Immaculate Conception Hospital where they died due to severe injuries.

Investigation said Degorio invited his friends over to his house to show the rifle grenade.

Degorio placed the rifle grenade in an improvised gun with a PVC (polyvinyl chloride) pipe as barrel and glass balls as bullets.

The rifle grenade did not fit the PVC pipe barrel and Degorio smashed it with a stone, resulting in an explosion.
