Authorities confiscated 1.3 tons of "hot meat" from four market stores and a grocery store in Pasay City on Friday, July 21.
According to City Veterinary Office Market Supervisor II Edelito Remanente, members of the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS), together with the Department of Agriculture (DA), coordinated with Dr. Ronaldo Bernasor, the city veterinarian, for the operations against establishments selling smuggled or "hot meat" products.
Remanente said members from the Business Permit and Licensing Office (BPLO) also joined the raid that was conducted at around 10:00 a.m.
He said their team first raided a grocery store located at the corner of Harisson Hernandez Streets, which was caught selling smuggled meat from China.
The market supervisor added that four stores in a market were also raided.
Remanente said they confiscated around 1.3 tons of meat of peking ducks, cockling pig, and black and yellow chicken from the stores.
All the products were reportedly shipped from China and were obtained without the proper documents.
He said the BPLO team discovered that one of the raided stores had an expired business permit.
