The Quezon City government and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the improvement of the application and renewal of business permits in the city on Monday, July 17.

DTI Secretary Alfredo Pascual, Undersecretary Ireneo Vizmonte, and Assistant Secretary Mary Jean Pacheco, Mayor Joy Belmonte, Quezon City Vice Mayor Gian Sotto, representatives of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), and Business Permit and Licensing Department (BPLD) Head Ms. Margie Santos signed the MOA for the improvement of the Business Name Registration System (BNRS). According to the DTI, BNRS ensures that registering a business name will guarantee the legal right to use it for five years and must be renewed to continue its validity. Belmonte expressed her gratitude to Pascual for joining them in the MOA signing. “Your presence is a testament to our shared commitment and dedication to creating an enabling environment for business to thrive in Quezon City,” Belmonte said. The mayor and the leaders of the city's 142 barangays also signed another MOA with the barangay chairpersons of the city for the Online Unified Business Permit Application System (OUBPAS). The LGU said the OUBAS integrates barangay business permit application and renewal, fees, and clearances to the city's online system to provide convenience to business owners. “The business registration process is the crucial gateway for entrepreneurs to transform their business ideas into reality.” she said. “However, we recognized that it can’t be a complex, restraining, and time consuming journey, which can hinder the spirit of innovation and economic growth.” she added. Through the two MOA, a barangay business clearances and other documents can be processed through the Online Unified Business Application System or QC E-Services, the city's online platform for providing services. Mayor Joy stated that they are prioritizing the improvement of the business environment in Quezon City. “Apart from complying with the requirements of the ease of doing business law, our efforts focused on ensuring business growth and assuring local economic development. Hence, we established our digital platform, the QC E-services platform,” she said.
