QC gov't, MMDA to implement traffic re-routing on SONA day
The Quezon City government and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced on Thursday, July 20, a traffic re-routing scheme to assist motorists as heavy traffic is expected in parts of the city during President Marcos' second State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, July 24.
The president will deliver his second SONA at the Batasang Pambansa Complex.
The local government said the MMDA will open a zipper lane (counterflow lane) along the southbound lane of Commonwealth Avenue to give way to vehicles of national and local government officials and guests who will attend the event.

Motorists were advised to take alternate routes to avoid getting stuck in traffic along the said thoroughfare, as well as the streets in the perimeter of Batasang Pambansa. The city government said that vehicles coming from the Quezon Memorial Circle (QMC) going to Fairview may pass through North Avenue, and turn right at Mindanao Avenue. They may also turn right to Sauyo Road or travers the Quirino Highway to reach Commonwealth Avenue or their point of destination. Meanwhile, those who are coming from Fairview going to QMC, they may enter Commonwealth Avenue and take the same alternative routes until they reach North Avenue. For light vehicles (e.g. vans and sports utility vehicles) from QMC going to Fairview via Marikina, they may pas through the Elliptical Road, turn right at Maharlika Street, left at Mayaman Street, right at Maginhawa Street, left at C.P. Garcia, right at Katipunan Avenue, and then left to A. Bonifacio Avenue. From A. Bonifacio Avenue, they may go straight to Gen. Luna Avenue, right to Kambal Road, left at GSIS road, left at Jones Street, right to Gen. Luna Avenue, straight to Mabini Street, left at Rodriguez Highway, then left at Payatas road to reach their destination. For trucks from Katipunan Avenue or C5 Road, they may take Luzon Flyover and turn left at Congressional Avenue. The traffic re-routing plan will be implemented through the coordination of the MMDA, Task Force SONA 2023, Philippine National Police, Quezon City Police District (QCPD), Presidential Security Group, and QC Transport and Traffic and Management. Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte had earlier announced the cancellation of classes in all levels (public and private schools) in the city on Monday. The MMDA said that more than 1,350 personnel will be deployed during the SONA to monitor and manage the traffic on the city’s roads, conduct road and sidewalk clearing operations, and assist in emergency situations.
