During his speech at the PMMA "Madasiklan" Class of 2023 commencement exercises in San Narciso, Zambales on Thursday, July 20, Marcos called on maritime-related agencies to continue improving the country's maritime education.

"I call on all the concerned agencies to coordinate closely with the PMMA,” the President said.

“Facilitate what will make our maritime education even more responsive to the needs of the nation while ensuring that whatever steps that we take will be in compliance with laws and regulations. This feat represents all that you have brought to the table so that we may fulfill the goals that you have set for your lives,” he added.

Marcos also emphasized that the success of the Philippine maritime industry would mean good investment that will bring breakthroughs for the graduates, their families, and the country.

“Let that thought and let the opportunity to make a change in our society propel you to excel further and to become the leaders that you were trained and meant to be ...  May all of you be blessed as you navigate the world’s seas and oceans in the days and years ahead. My heartfelt congratulations,” he said.

The Chief Executive also recognized the private sector's support in promoting quality maritime education and training that allows the industry to be "more innovative, resilient and adaptive to the ever changing world."

"I extend my profound gratitude to the private shipping industry for the support that the PMMA has received from our most important private sector partners. You are not only making a difference in the lives of these graduates, you are also elevating our capabilities as a maritime nation," he said.

The PMMA is the pioneer institution in maritime education in the country. It has produced for years many master mariners, chief engineers, shipping executives, naval and coast guard officers, educators and trainers now serving in marine and maritime-related industries in the country and abroad.

Aside from its undergraduate and graduate studies offerings, the PMMA, through its Training Center, offers various courses such as Basic Training, Basic Training Updating, Basic Training Refresher Updating, and Advanced Training in Fire Fighting.
