Makabayan solons' 'statement attire' for SONA calls for wage hike, blasts Maharlika fund

Makabayan solons ACT Teachers Party-list Rep. France Castro and Gabriela Party-list Rep. Arlene Brosas will let their outfits do the talking on the day of the State of the Nation Address (SONA). Castro's office sent to House of Representatives reporters Thursday, July 20 the design of the custom terno she plans to wear on Monday, July 24, when President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. delivers his annual speech. Front and center in her "statement attire" are images that "[call] for significant salary increases for teachers, nurses, government emlloyees and workers". "The Filipiniana terno was designed and handpainted by artist/painter Michael Joselo of Altermidya," ACT Teachers said. Joselo is also an arts teacher in Manila.

Brosas will also wear a custom terno on July 24.
The design of Brosas' terno--which features a crocodile in Barong Tagalog lying on pool of money--echoes her opposition to the newly-enacted Maharlika Investment Fund (MIF). It was also designed by Joselo.
Castro is a deputy minority leader while Brosas is an assistant minority leader. They are both Marcos administration critics.
