ISABEL, Leyte – Sen. Imee Marcos led the distribution of P3-million worth of assistance to at least 1,000 individuals here on Wednesday, July 19.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development released P3,000 under the assistance to each individual in crisis situations (AICS) program to persons with disabilities, solo parents, tricycle drivers, farmers, and fisherfolk from the 24 barangays.
“Aside from the pandemic, prices of basic commodities are also increasing. I will continue to lobby for more allocation of AICS in the country,” Marcos said, citing the need for assistance by people who are still reeling from the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.
Mayor Edgardo Cordeño expressed gratitude for the assistance to his municipality.
He appealed to the senator to help housing beneficiaries who were relocated due to the Leyte Industrial Development Estate (LIDE) project during her late father's term but was not given ownership due to the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution.
"I asked for the senator's help for them to be given with title because they have been living there for decades already. They are being threatened to be evicted every election and I want to put a stop to that," he said.
LIDE is a 425-hectare special economic zone established in 1978 here where the Philippine Associated Smelting and Refining Corp. and the Philippine Phosphate Fertilizer Corp. are located.
