Herlene Nicole Budol has recently shared her journey in the Miss Grand Philippines 2023 competition, saying she had contemplated withdrawing from the competition due to the overwhelming criticism she received after her pre-pageant interview. During her second appearance on the talk show "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda" last June 28, Herlene displayed courage and even expressed gratitude for the comments, recognizing how they have positively impacted her growth and motivation to achieve success. The beauty queen-comedienne also exhibited her fearlessness in embracing her mistakes. At the Miss Grand Philippines pre-pageant interview last June 20, Herlene was asked: "Besides having a large social media following, what other qualities do you possess to secure the crown?" Her way of answering went viral and received criticisms. But Herlene said that she was serious, but she wasn’t able to understand the question.

The beauty queen said she received comments such as bobo, tanga, and still acknowledged her mistakes over what happened. “Siguro nga ho dahil tinawag nila akong bobo, tanga, okay lang po…Ang natutunan ko po dito sa pagkakamali na ito, is yung more talk, more mistakes, more learnings kasi gusto ko po matuto sa lahat po ng pagkakamali ko na nagagawa ko sa buhay,” Herlene said. Although Herlene showed great courage in the matter, she came very close to giving up on participating in Miss Grand Philippines. It came to the point that Herlene couldn’t sleep, eat, or even use her cell phone because of the hateful comments. “First time po kasi na ganon kadami. In the end, her courage prevailed as she won Miss Philippines Tourism 2023, one of the titles up for grabs during the pageant, last July 14. Herlene rose to fame when she became a part of "Wowowin" and participated in the segment called "Willie of Fortune." Willie Revillame was so captivated by her personality that he appointed her as a permanent co-host. (Kyla Mari Paulo/OJT/University of Sto. Tomas)
