Papal Nuncio Archbishop Charles John Brown will lead the Canonical Possession and installation rites at 9 a.m. for Bishop Cuevas who will serve as the fourth bishop of the vicariate. The ceremony will be held at the Sto. Nino Cathedral in Calapan City. Bishop Cuevas said he is ready to serve the almost one million Roman Catholics in the vicariate as he asks for prayers in his new assignment. Pope Francis named Bishop Cuevas as the new shepherd of the Apostolic Vicariate of Calapan on June 29, on the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul. He succeeds Bishop Warlito Cajandig who has retired for health reasons. Before his appointment, Bishop Cuevas served for over two decades at the Archdiocese of Zamboanga. He served as the parish vicar of the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception of Zamboanga, rector of the sanctuary Nostra Signora del Pilar, and chancellor of the Archdiocese of Zamboanga. He also served as the administrator of the Pastoral Center and as parish priest of Santa Maria parish, and has been serving since 2017, as the director of the archdiocese’s Commission on the Clergy. He was elected on March 19, 2020, as the auxiliary bishop to Bishop Romulo Tolentino de la Cruz, of the Archdiocese of Zamboanga.
