Renaissance in Manila
Reproductions of Michelangelo's paintings on full display at Estancia Mall
By JAMES SAM

Michelangelo, otherwise known as “Il Divino,” is most famously known for his 34 frescoes found on the ceilings of the Sistine Chapel. Frescoes being mural paintings that make use of water-based pigments on fresh plaster, with the paintings eventually becoming an integral part of the plaster, Michelangelo’s masterpieces can only be found within the Vatican City. From New York to Shanghai, London to Melbourne, and Vienna to Los Angeles, ATIN Global Inc. and SEE Global Entertainment Inc. have their renowned “Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel: The Exhibition” to the Philippines, where it runs until the end of September. Visitors take part in a multi-sensory exhibit, witnessing Michelangelo’s otherworldly masterpieces up close and personally. Through the use of cutting-edge technology, meticulous research, and precise reproductions, the exhibit showcases Michelangelo’s 34 frescoes in life-size display. Iconic frescoes such as The Last Judgement and The Creation of Adam with their divine figures, dynamic compositions, and expressive faces are on display in a never-before-seen format. The multi-sensory experience enables its audience to fully immerse themselves in Michelangelo’s works, transporting them to the Renaissance period as the subtle scents of patchouli, sandalwood, and frankincense are paired with ambient Renaissance music especially curated by Manila Symphony Orchestra conductor Marlon Chan.
