Magnitude-4 quake jolts Davao Occidental


BUTUAN CITY – A magnitude-four earthquake jolted Davao Occidental on Sunday morning, July 2.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the earthquake was registered at 3:48 a.m. and its epicenter was 165 kilometers southeast of Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental.

The tremor had a shallow depth of only two kms, Phivolcs added.

No damage or aftershocks are expected from the tectonic earthquake caused by the movement of an active fault in the area.

The Office of Civil Defense in Southern Mindanao and Davao Occidental Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported no damage or injury from the earthquake.

Two hours earlier at 1:27 a.m., magnitude-3.9 earthquake hit Burgos, Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte.

The epicenter of the tectonic earthquake was located 86 kms northeast of Burgos with a depth of 17 kms.

Authorities expect no damage or aftershocks from this pre-dawn tremor.
