Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms may prevail over most of the country in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Sunday, July 2.
PAGASA said the southwest monsoon, or “habagat,” which is affecting the western part of Luzon, and localized thunderstorms will be the dominant weather systems across the country.
The entire archipelago may experience “fair” weather due to partly cloudy to cloudy skies, but there may still be isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon or evening.
PAGASA warned that severe thunderstorms may cause landslides or flash floods, particularly in vulnerable areas.
Meanwhile, weather specialist Daniel James Villamil said PAGASA does not expect the formation of a low pressure area (LPA) that may intensify into a tropical cyclone and affect the country in the coming days.
PAGASA estimates that three to four tropical cyclones could form or enter the country’s area of responsibility in July, based on its climatological records.
It noted that some of these cyclones may make landfall over Luzon or enhance the southwest monsoon.
