A total of 30 Badjao fisherfolk have been granted with motorized boats by the office of Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Zaldy Co in an effort to boost their livelihood.

Co provided the motorized boats to the fishermen in the form of certificates. Aside from the boats, they will also receive essential fishing equipment.

“Ang tulong na ito ay hindi lamang magbibigay sa kanila ng hanapbuhay ngunit magdudulot din ito sa pangkalahatang paglago ng ekonomiya at kagalingan ng Badjao community,” said Co, chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations.

(This assistance is not just meant to give them livelihood; this will also uplift the economy and skills of the Badjao community).

Co also pledged a cash assistance of P15,000 to the fishermen.

The Badjao community, known for their seafaring traditions, has faced numerous challenges in recent years due to limited access to fishing bangkas or boats and essential resources.

Recognizing these difficulties, the second term congressman from Bicol took these proactive steps to address these issues and enable the Badjaos to thrive in their trade.

Each certificate from Co represents the recipient's eligibility to receive a motorized bangka along with a comprehensive set of fishing equipment. The boats have been outfitted with efficient engines.

The fishing equipment package includes vital tools such as nets, lines, hooks, and other essential accessories necessary for their daily activities.

The distribution of certificates took place last June 30 during the National Irrigation Administration AI Congress in Legazpi City, Albay.
