The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) announced Mendoza's appointment as Assistant Secretary and head of LTO in a Facebook post on Wednesday, July 18.
Mendoza, a former Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) member, replaced Jay Art Tugade who resigned recently.
Lawyer Hector Villacorta, also an Assistant Secretary at the Department of Transportation (DoTr) assumed the LTO post as officer-in-charge until the President appointed Mendoza to head the agency.
Mendoza also previously served in the House of Representatives as the nominee of the 1-UTAK (United Transport Alliance Koalisyon) party-list group.
A turnover ceremony for the new LTO chief is set on Monday, July 24, the same day Marcos will deliver his second State of the Nation Address (SONA).
Malacañang bared Mendoza’s designation along with other new presidential appointees to some of the remaining vacancies in government.
Among them were Arturo Trinidad, Director II of the Insurance Commission; Moises Tamayo, Director II of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI); and William Quinto, Director III of the Department of Energy (DOE).
Also appointed were Joselito Caballero, Director III, of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH); and Jesus Elpidio Atal Jr., Director IV, of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
