OFW Partylist Rep. Magsino pushes for airline industry inquiry

Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) Party-List Representative, Assistant Minority Floor Leader Marissa "Del Mar" Magsinohas said that the Congress is deeply committed to fast tracking the House inquiry on policies on airline industry and airport operations that will address public clamor and complaints relative to delays and cancellations of flights.

 Congresswoman Magsino said that House Resolution 1105, which she filed while the Congress was in recess, is expected to roll out its inquiry in aid of legislation right after the Congress opens on Monday, July 24, in time with the State of the Nation Address of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. Magsino said in a radio interview yesterday morning  that HR 1105 primary aims at providing solutions to dismal experiences of OFWs as perennial victims of flight delays and cancellations of all airline operators. "Our demand is for airline operators to provide ample time, say two days, to inform passengers of flight delays and cancellations and compel airline companies to help passengers book their flights to another airline in case of such circumstances," said Magsino. According to Magsino, it is about time for the Congress to review and evaluate the protocols, air travel laws and airport operations, and ensure the implementation of air passenger bill of rights, to ensure the protection of air transport passengers in the country. Magsino added that many OFWs have lost their jobs and paid penalties for not coming on time on their jobs abroad due to the delays and cancellation of flights and this is what HR 1105 seeks to mitigate. Magsino said that HR 1105 likewise seeks the progressive development of air transport industry in relation to the promotion of the country's tourism sector. "Our desire is to evaluate necessary changes to ensure the protection of passengers, not limited to OFWs, but also Filipino and foreign travelers in relation to our pursuit of national development," said Magsino.
