MDRRMO to monitor park in Intramuros after tree falls amid heavy downpour

The Manila Disaster Risk Reductions Management Office (MDRRMO) said on Tuesday, July 18, that it will monitor the Round Table park in Intramuros after a tree fell down at the height of heavy downpour last July 16. The old tree toppled at 11:05 a.m. due to strong wind and heavy rainfall that caused soil erosion. The MDRRMO is already monitoring the area in case the trees fall again, especially since the trees in the area are big and old, and it's still raining)."

Allada said the monitoring team strives to prevent such incidents from happening again. He said that the big tree blocked the two lanes of the road in front of the Intramuros golf course outside the Muralla General Luna gate of Intramuros. The MDRRMO, in coordination with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Special Response Unit (SRU), immediately went to the area on the same day to address the situation. MDRRMO and BFP-SRU cut and moved the tree to the sidewalk to prevent further vehicular traffic in the area. Allada said that personnel of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Manila Department of Public Services (DPS) will use their big trucks to haul the remaining parts of the tree that are still in the area. Allada assured the public that MDRRMO will stay alert for any disaster.
