Filipino priest appointed official of Vatican's missionary arm
Pope Francis named a Filipino priest as one of the two newly appointed officials of the Dicastery for Evangelization, the missionary arm of the Vatican.

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) on Wednesday, July 19, said that Fr. Erwin Jose Balagapo of the Archdiocese of Palo, Leyte was chosen for the position.
Balagapo was born in Tacloban City. He received his priestly ordination in 1996.
After completing his studies in Rome, he began his career as a canon lawyer in 2015 and has been at the dicastery.
Besides Fr. Balagapo, Pope Francis also appointed Korean priest Fr. Han Hyun-taek as an official of the Dicastery for Evangelization.
They both have previous experience working in the dicastery and will continue in their roles until 2028.
As officials of the dicastery, one of their responsibilities is to head the office that falls under the Section for the First Evangelization and New Particular Churches, where Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle is in-charge.
CBCP added that under the leadership of Pope Francis, the dicastery is composed of two sections, each headed by a pro-prefect.
One section deals with fundamental questions of evangelization in the world, while the other focuses on "first evangelization and new particular Churches in its jurisdictional territories.
