11 loose firearms seized in Caraga


CAMP RAFAEL C. RODRIGUEZ, Butuan City – Police seized 11 loose firearms and arrested two individuals in the Caraga region from July 9 to 15.

The PRO-13 Regional Operations Division (ROD) said three small firearms were seized during the implementation of search warrant and police response, eight were voluntarily surrendered through “Oplan: Bakal” and “Katok,” and one was turned in by a former New People’s Amy rebel during his surrender.

The Agusan del Sur Police Provincial Office (PPO) had six surrendered firearms, Surigao del Norte PPO and Butuan City Police Office had two, and Agusan del Norte PPO and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-13 had one each.

Police nabbed one individual in Barangay Baan Riverside, Butuan City on July 9 and another in Barangay La Flora, Talacogon, Agusan del Sur on July 13 during the implementation of search warrants for violation of Republic Act No. 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act).

“The 2023 Barangay and SK elections are fast approaching and we have stepped up our campaign against loose firearms to ensure that these weapons shall not be used as instruments of violence or crime in this year's polls,” the PRO 13 ROD said.
