The trough of a low-pressure area (LPA) and the southwest monsoon may bring rain showers and thunderstorms to parts of the country in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Tuesday, July 18.
PAGASA said the trough or extension of the LPA, which was spotted 810 kilometers east of northeastern Mindanao, may bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms to Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Davao de Oro, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, and Davao Occidental.
Flash floods or landslides may occur in these areas due to moderate to occasional heavy rains.
According to PAGASA weather specialist Grace Castañeda, the LPA may become a tropical depression within 24 hours.
Once it develops into a cyclone, the weather system will be given the local name “Egay.”
Based on its latest forecast track, the LPA may move toward Northern Luzon in the next few days, Castañeda said.
‘Habagat’ to bring rain showers
Meanwhile, scattered rain showers and thunderstorms may continue in Zambales and Bataan because of the southwest monsoon, or “habagat.”
PAGASA warned of floods or landslides in these provinces due to moderate to occasional heavy rains.
The rest of the country may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated habagat rain showers or localized thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening.
PAGASA warned that severe thunderstorms may also cause flash floods or landslides.
