San Juan LGU opens PH's first canine blood bank

The San Juan City local government, in partnership with JCI Philippines, launched the country's first canine blood bank as part of its efforts in improving its healthcare services to San Juaneños' pets. The kick-off ceremony was held at the city hall and was attended by San Juan City Councilor Don Allado, JCI Manila President Eric Ke, EVP Calel Gosingtian, Secretary General Chris Liao, SP Director Mark Pizzaro, Chairman Ron Jaworski, and San Juan City Veterinary Doctor Jerry Alcantara. The canine blood bank is located inside the city hall and was envisioned to provide a reliable source of canine blood to pet owners when the need arises. It will soon become fully operational. A blood bank freezer was donated by JCI as well as consumables required for the proper treatment and care of the animals. "The establishment of the first-ever canine blood bank in the Philippines is a monumental milestone for animal welfare. The joint efforts of the San Juan City Government and JCI Manila have paved the way for pet owners in the region to have access to a reliable source of canine blood, increasing the chances of saving and extending the lives of their beloved pets," the city government said. In celebration of Wattah Wattah Festival in June, San Juan City and JCI previously held a canine blood donation drive at the San Juan Gymnasium where the collected blood bags were stored in the blood bank facility.
