BUTUAN CITY – A magnitude-5.3 earthquake jolted Sarangani on Monday, July 17.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded the earthquake at 11:35 p.m. and its epicenter was plotted 49 kilometers southwest of Maitum, Sarangani.
The tremor had a shallow depth of only one kilometer, Phivolcs said, and it was felt at Intensity IV in T'boli, South Cotabato; Intensity III in Maitum and Maasim, Sarangani; Lake Sebu, Norala, and Tupi in South Cotabato, and General Santos City, and Intensity II in City of Koronadal, Banga, Polomolok, and Tampakan, South Cotabato, and Jose Abad Santos and Balut Island, Sarangani, Davao Occidental.
Phivolcs does not expect any damage from the earthquake but warned that aftershocks could occur.
The Office of Civil Defense in Southern Mindanao and Sarangani Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported no damage or injury from the tremor.
