A 4.0-magnitude earthquake jolted Ilocos Norte on Tuesday morning, July 18, said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
Phivolcs traced the earthquake’s epicenter 28 kilometers northwest of Burgos, Ilocos Norte around 9:28 a.m.
It occurred at a shallow depth of 6 km beneath the epicenter.

Phivolcs said the tremor was felt at Intensity III (weak) in Pagudpud, Adams, and Pasuquin in Ilocos Norte.
It was also recorded by its instruments at Intensity III in Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte; Intensity II in Laoag City Ilocos Norte; and Intensity I in Sinait, Ilocos Sur.
Phivolcs said the earthquake was tectonic, which means it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.
However, it does not expect damage or aftershocks because of this earthquake.
