The family of the late heartthrob Rico Yan has appealed to stop using his name for their own individual purposes.

Sita Yan, Rico's mom, released a statement that was read by veteran entertainment broadcaster-talent manager Ogie Diaz on his YouTube show last Monday, July 17.

The full statement read:

"It has been 21 years since Rico passed on March 29, 2002. The pain of the family losing a son and a brother has been permanently etched on our being.

"The recent news swirling around Rico is very unfair. He is no longer around to give his comment, to either refute, deny, or acknowledge the claims. It is not only unfair but disrespectful.

"I asked everyone concerned to please STOP using Rico's name for their own individual purposes. Please leave Rico, and us in peace.

"Thank you."

Last July 6, former sexy star Sabrina M revealed that she and Rico were in a secret relationship.

Sabrina M made the revelation during the press conference for the upcoming movie "Manang" held in Quezon City. But Sabrina M clarified that Rico and Claudine Barretto were no longer in a relationship when she came into the picture.

The statement of Sabrina M was disputed by Claudine, former girlfriend of Rico. Former sexy actress Katrina Paula has also refuted the allegations made by her friend Sabrina M.

Lawyer Ferdie Topacio, who is Claudine's lawyer, has urged Sabrina M to apologize for her remarks regarding Rico to avoid any potential legal complications.

But Sabrina M has refused to give a public apology.
