Create inclusive workplace for PWDs, Marcos tells private sector

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has called on the private sector to build an environment that will promote inclusion, particularly for persons with disabilities (PWDs), as he said his administration is committed to address the challenges they are facing.

In a speech delivered by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin during the 30th Apolinario Mabini Awards on Tuesday, July 18, the President expressed his hopes for workplaces that will "uphold a culture that values diversity and equality."

He urged the private sector "to create inclusive workspaces that will provide equal employment opportunities for PWDs."

The government will also do its part, Marcos gave as an assurance.

As he asserted that PWDs are "beacons of hope" that light the path "towards a society that fully embraces all," Marcos pledged that the government "remains dedicated to addressing the challenges faced by our PWDs, so that they can fully participate in shaping our society."

"I trust that the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the Department of Health (DOH), our local government units, and all of our partner agencies shall continue to strengthen our programs and services that encourage PWDs to take part in nation building," he said.

Marcos asked government offices to continue their advocacies in reducing prejudice and promoting the acceptance and empowerment of our PWDs.

The Mabini Awards, which recognize those who are making remarkable contributions to the empowerment and inclusion of PWDs in the Philippines, is a proof "that reminds us that disability does not define a person's worth," the President said.

"Instead, it is a spark for innovation, resilience and ingenuity that enables people to do better and to do more. We not only find out our innate strengths, but also discover our true selves whenever we are willing to go beyond our limitations," he added.
