Can-avid, Eastern Samar mayor loses P2 M in fire

TACLOBAN CITY – Mayor Vilma Germino of Can-avid, Eastern Samar lost P2 million worth of property in a fire that engulfed her house on Monday, July 17, in Barangay 7, Poblacion, Can-avid. Initial investigation revealed that the fire allegedly started from an electrical switch. When Germino turned it on, it suddenly ignited and burned the whole second floor where their bedrooms are. The fire reportedly started around 5:30 a.m. and was declared fire out at about 6:30 a.m. Firefighters from the neighboring towns of Taft, Dolores, and Oras also responded to the fire. The Bureau of Fire Protection-Can-avid said estimated damage to property in the fire was P2 million. Germino's bedroom where all her valuables were kept was totally destroyed.
