AAFI readies for 'Applause'

Aliw Awards Foundation, Inc. (AAFI) is putting the finishing touches on its “Applause: a Musical tribute to Aliw Founder Alice H. Reyes”, set for July 31, at the Manila Hotel Fiesta Pavilion.

The once-in-a lifetime event will have Entertainers of the Year and Lifetime Achievement awardees leading the all-star cast in a production directed by Joey Nombres, who has been with the foundation since its inception in 1976. 

Confirmed to perform are Gerald Santos, Kuh Ledesma, Gerphil Flores, Julie Anne San Jose, Dulce, Jose Mari Chan, John Lesaca and Imelda Papin.

Other Aliw awardees are expected to join the Tribute, among them Tosca and Rox Puno, Beverley Salviejo, Merjohn Lagaya, Nina Campos, Jade Riccio, Sherwin Sioson, Kathy Hipolito Mas and several more.

The event is sponsored by Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, Greenfield Development Corporation, San Miguel Corporation, PAGCOR, Alpha One A-1 Global International Sales, Danish Konstrukt Inc., Ms. Lisa Macuja Elizalde and Mr. Boy Abunda, as of this writing. 

Media partners are the Manila Times, the Journal Group of Publications, Philippine United News, Manila Bulletin, and Philippine Star.

The Executive Committee for the event is headed by Birdie Reyes III and Aristeo Garcia, Chairmen of the subcommittees and their members are: Co-chairs Rema Manzano and Ofelia Cajigal, Ways and Means, with members Francia Conrado, Brian Lu and Elna Fabiana Miralles; Co-chairmen Francia Conrado and Tess Tan, Reception Committee, with members Ofelia Cajigal, Leonora Cabael, Anna Liza Ouano, Dennis Aguilar and Elizabeth Oshiro Quiazon; and Chairman Joey Nombres, Invitation Committee, with members Leonora Cabael, Anna Liza Ouano, and Virginia Bongalosa.

The dinner show will be directed by Joey Nombres and Musical Director is Pipo Cifra, three-time Aliw awardee.
