Village chair yields unlicensed guns


CAMP GEN. PACIANO RIZAL, Laguna – Police arrested a barangay chairman for selling unlicensed firearms during a buy-bust operation in Barangay Wakat, Nagcarlan, Laguna, on Saturday, July 15.

In a report to Police Regional Office 4-A chief Brig. Gen. Carlito Gaces from Laguna police director Police Col. Harold Depositar, the suspect was identified as “Renato.”

Confiscated from the suspect were a caliber .45 semi-automatic rifle, a caliber .45 pistol Colt MK IV model 1911, two magazines for caliber .45 semi-automatic rifle, a steel magazine for caliber .45, 21 caliber .45 bullets, black holster for caliber .45, the boodle money, and a smart phone.

Renato is under the custody of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Batangas and faces charges for violation of  Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

Meanwhile, Depositar said they are set to intensify the campaign against loose firearms in the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections in Laguna later this year.
