This art competition aims to showcase the best of Filipino digital art, here's how to join
The competition is also open to students
With the advent of technology, the appreciation and demand for various digital arts are also on the rise. From motion pictures and still works to NFT art. Certainly, there is a market and open opportunities for everyone to explore.
In an effort to further promote digital arts, especially in the Philippines, Galeria Paloma launches its Paloma Digital Art Awards.
For its kick-off year, the competition's theme is inspired by Dr. Jose Rizal's quote, "The Past Holds the Future, the Future Holds the Past." The theme centers on how learning from, looking to, and leaning on the past propels us to move towards our future.
The gallery also announced that the competition will have four categories: Solo Artist, Still Work; Solo Artist, Video Work; Group/Collaboration, Still Work; and Group/Collaboration, Video Work. The competition is open to Filipinos 18 years old and above. Foreigners are also eligible to participate in the group/collaboration categories, provided that at least one group member is a Filipino citizen.
“The gallery has been very excited about the movement of digital arts here in the Philippines. The talents of local digital artists are really rich,” Kimi Rocha-Delgado, one of the directors of Galeria Paloma, tells Manila Bulletin Lifestyle in an interview. “We want to able to provide the opportunity, the platform for the artists to show their art. We decided earlier this year to put up a competition that will give them a chance to be part of an exhibition here in the country as well as in Vienna, Austria.”
Winners of each category will receive a cash prize of P50,000 and gifts from the awards’ sponsors. Entries that employ augmented reality in their artworks through the Artivive app will also have a chance to be a part of a curated exhibition to be held in the Artivive Gallery in Vienna, Austria. The deadline for submission of entries is on Aug. 15, 2023. Winners will be announced on Sept. 30, 2023.
“The gallery is dedicated to encouraging Filipino artists in a broad sense, and more especially those who use and explore technology as a medium,” Kimi says in a press statement. “Technology has become an inexorable catalyst in the changing art landscape. In step with this year’s theme, we are excited to keep holding on to established forms and at the same time move forward with what technology has to offer and spark new synapses of creativity in artists.”
