Marikina shoe bazaar opens for back-to-school, ‘Palarong Pambansa’ season

As students return to school and visitors flock to the city for the “Palarong Pambansa” or National Games in the coming days, the Marikina local government opened a shoe bazaar on Monday, July 17.

The bazaar, which is located on the first floor of the multi-level parking building in Barangay Sta. Elena, near the Marikina City Hall, will be serving customers until August 27.

It will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Mondays to Thursdays; and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Fridays to Sundays.

Organized by the city government and the Philippine Footwear Federation Inc. (PFFI), the bazaar sought to seize the opportunities afforded by the resumption of classes in schools and the upcoming city-wide activities for the National Games from the last week of July to the first week of August.

Students and parents can more conveniently buy black school shoes and bags for use this new school year.

Meanwhile, tourists and delegates can shop for the city’s signature “Marikina-made” leather goods and other souvenir items all in one venue.

Marikina residents are also encouraged to visit the booths and patronize the products throughout the season.

The bazaar offers a variety of quality footwear and leather goods from around 46 participating local manufacturers. Among those are C Point Shoes, Checkpoint Shoes, SQM Shoes, Antonio Manila, Gibson Shoes, Sock-Toe-Footwear, Nichollettes, Rusty Lopez, and Mondi.

The opening of the bazaar was led by Marikina Vice Mayor Marion Andres and members of the City Council. They were joined by PFFI head G. Tony Andres Sr., members of the local shoe industry, and officials from the local government offices and departments.
