House Speaker Martin Romualdez holds Filipino firefighters in very high regard. This was evident from Romualdez's remarks Monday, July 17 during the turnover of five 1,000-gallon fire trucks to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) headquarters in Quezon City. “To the BFP, I extend my deepest gratitude for your unwavering commitment and service. You are the embodiment of heroism and compassion, and your sacrifices do not go unnoticed,” Romualdez said in his speech. “Firefighters are more than individuals in uniforms...They serve as beacons of hope, guardians of life, and protectors of property,” he added. According to the House leader and Leyte 1st district congressman, the presence of firemen in communities provide "reassurance and peace of mind" since the people know that "in times of distress, there are brave souls ready to respond with unwavering determination". As for the turnover of the fire trucks, Romualdez said: “This occasion serves as a testament to our unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of our communities, as well as a celebration of the invaluable role our firefighters play as pillars of nation-building." The Speaker underscored that fire trucks were “not mere vehicles” as they “represent our collective dedication to equipping our local governments and their respective firefighters with the necessary resources to carry out their crucial duties". “Let us work hand in hand to strengthen our emergency response systems, promote fire safety education, and enhance collaboration between local government units and the Bureau of Fire Protection,” he said.
