8 out of 10 still prefer to fly Cebu Pacific
Nationwide poll by Vox Populi unveils consistent preference for Cebu Pacific
Amidst lingering issues of flight delays, cancellations, and alleged service deficiencies, Quezon City-based polling firm Vox Populi Polls conducted a nationwide opinion poll from July 4 to 7, 2023 to determine public reactions to the said issues, which are regarded as endemic problems in the airline industry.
Result of this market research shows that the top two airline companies insofar as “Awareness Level” is concerned are Cebu Pacific at 47% and Philippine Airlines at 43%. Air Asia is on third at 9%.
When respondents were asked whether such delays and cancellations happen often with only one particular airline, 82% said that “it is experienced with all of the airline companies.” This is eight out of 10 respondents. “Cebu Pacific only” was rated 18%, two out of 10 respondents.
Considering the recent prominent media discussions on delays and cancellations focused on Cebu Pacific, respondents were asked if they will travel again, if they “will still ride Cebu Pacific” or choose “other airlines.” Eighty four per cent responded that they “will still ride Cebu Pacific,” while 16% responded “other airline.” That’s eight out of 10 consistent with the opinion that delays and cancellations are “experienced with all of the airline companies.”
When those who replied flying again with Cebu Pacific were asked with a follow-up question as to their reason, 84% cited “affordability” as the primary reason. The answers are summed up as “mura at affordable ang pamasahe.” (low-priced and affordable fare)
In terms of “trustworthiness,” PAL is ahead at 41% while Cebu Pacific earned 37%. As to “air fare,” Cebu Pacific is runaway choice polling 52% against PAL’s 23%.
This market research was conducted in 10 representative areas all over the country using a sample base of 1,200 adult middle class respondents, which were distributed on weighted averages. The bigger the area, the more respondents were assigned to it.
The distribution is as follows: Luzon - 52%, Visayas - 21%, Mindanao - 27%. Principal methodology used was Face-to-Face interviews. Respondents very well represent the demographic profile of the market. All figures are expressed in percentage.
Interviews were started at random. Accomplished interviews were subjected to a random “Second Run” check back, which ensured accuracy of the entries and other applications.
The results have an error margin of 2.8 percentage points, more or less, while the confidence level is at 98%. All data were processed electronically using the appropriate statistical applications.
This nationwide opinion poll is in line with a research on “Perceptions and Impressions About Air Travel in the Philippines” by Mr. Art G. Valenzuela, Managing Director of Vox Populi Polls.
