PEZA tallies 27 ecozone projects; further streamlines processes
The Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) is further streamlining its requirements to speed up the presidential proclamation process for ecozone developments as 27 big ticket projects worth more than P40 billion are getting ready to offer locations to investors.
PEZA Director General Tereso O. Panga revealed the new streamlining initiative at the Office of the President (OP) following instruction by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
“The President instructed the Department of Trade and Industry, PEZA and OP-DESGA (Deputy Executive Secretary of General Administration) to streamline and harmonize the requirements to speed up the presidential proclamation process for ecozones,” said Panga.
He said the PEZA Board has already approved the revised guidelines of PEZA for registration of ecozones including endorsements to DTI Office of the Secretary and OP for the proclamation.
“That is for ready for publication, just awaiting the go signal of DTI Secretary Alfredo E. Pascual,” he said.
A PEZA-approved ecozone development project needs a Presidential Proclamation before it can proceed to implementation.
Meantime, Panga said that Malacanang has just approved the proclamation of the P20-billion Felcris Centrale IT Park in Davao City.
On top of the P20-billion Felcris project, Panga noted there are 27 ecozones have been registered with the PEZA. Of these, 19 projects with combined investments of P20 billion have already been endorsed to the OP for Presidential Proclamation. Panga also pointed out that nine out of the 19 ecozones will cater to manufacturing projects.
The remaining eight others were registered with PEZA in the January-June period this year with PP33.002 billion investments, lower than the P4.8 billion ecozone investments approved in the same period last year. The new ecozone approvals are located in Cebu, Batangas, Cavite, Makati, South Cotabato, and Quezon City.
PEZA is also set to endorse these new projects to the OP for Presidential Proclamation.
