Malabon LGU, PRC hold Mass Casualty Incident Training and Simulation Exercise
The Malabon City government and the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) conducted on Saturday, July 15, a Mass Casualty Incident Training and Simulation Exercise to ensure the city's preparedness for large-scale disasters and other calamities.
The PRC spearheaded the activity held at Tinajeros Elementary School, joined by 143 PRC volunteers from the barangay.
It is part of the PRC and city’s celebration of the National Disaster Consciousness Month.
Among the participants of the event were medical doctors, nurses, police, and firefighters from the Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine National Police, City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, City Public Information Office, and City Health Office personnel.

According to the PRC, the simulation activity was based on a scenario involving a 6.8-magnitude earthquake, with the objective of enhancing the emergency response, capacity, coordination, and resilience of PRC, its 143 volunteers, and the local government unit in managing mass casualty incidents (MCIs). It included exercises on firefighting, first aid, rescue and disaster response operations. “Our country is ranked number one in disaster risk. While we cannot wish away hazards, we can focus on preparing for them. One way to prepare for a large-scale disaster, especially an earthquake, is through MCI simulation exercise,” PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Dick Gordon explained. “Our main objective is to evaluate our emergency response system within a controlled setting. After this, we will modify our response plans as necessary,” he added. PRC Secretary General Dr. Gwen Pang also highlighted the significance of involving the PRC 143 volunteers in every barangay in a MCI simulation exercise, as they will be the first to report an MCI should it happen. Also present during the event were Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval, PRC-Malabon Chapter Chairman Ricky Sandoval and board of directors, and city department heads. The PRC said it will conduct another MCI training and simulation exercise in Quezon City on July 20.
